Why BetaReadIt exists

Built for one real novel, before it became a product for everyone else.

BetaReadIt started as a private tool, built to get real, structured feedback on one unpublished novel from a real group of beta readers. It ran for months before a single outside author ever touched it, so every feature exists because a real beta round needed it, not because it looked good on a roadmap. Today, supported by a small team of specialists, it's open to authors, publishers and editorial teams who want the same thing: real readers, real feedback, and a manuscript that stays under control the whole time.

Our mission

Every manuscript deserves a real chance to be understood.

Not skimmed in a rushed email reply, not buried in a comment thread nobody reads twice. BetaReadIt exists for that fragile, in-between moment, after the last page is written and before anyone else has read it, and gives it the care it deserves: a place to read properly, feel safe sharing early work, and turn honest reactions into something you can actually use.

Our vision

Books get better when people read them closely.

We want BetaReadIt to be where every author and publisher turns for that: not just for one beta round, but for the whole quiet, human process between "it is done" and "it is ready". Beta reading today and everything that comes after, always powered by real readers, never by a machine pretending to be one.

At a glance

What you get, on both sides of the book.

How we compare

You could stitch this together with five different tools. Here's what you'd give up.

Google Docs / Word

Good at being familiar and free. BetaReadIt goes further with controlled, watermarked, revocable access, and structured feedback you can compare instead of thirty comment threads.

A generic beta-reading tool

Good at collecting reader feedback. BetaReadIt goes further with publisher-first roles and permissions, real versioning, and reading analytics that show where the story works.

AI manuscript-analysis tools

Good at producing fast, automated notes. BetaReadIt goes further because every note comes from a real person who actually read the book.

Email + spreadsheets

Good at being cheap and flexible. BetaReadIt goes further with one connected system instead of a growing pile of attachments and hand-updated rows.

How we protect your manuscript

Controlled, tracked and revocable, from the first invite to the last chapter.

We cannot promise a screenshot is impossible, because nobody honestly can. What we can promise is that every access is controlled, tracked and revocable.

No direct download

Never delivered as a file a reader can save or forward on.

Dynamic watermark

Every page carries a mark tied to the reader viewing it.

Expiring, revocable access

Cut off any reader's access instantly, at any moment.

NDA tracking

Acceptance recorded per reader, per manuscript, with a timestamp.

Audit log

A running record of meaningful access and activity.

Tenant isolation

One organisation's data is never visible to another.

How we work

Built and maintained by TypeDM.

Security, infrastructure and product decisions are reviewed before anything reaches your manuscripts. It is the same discipline we would want from any tool holding our own unpublished work.
